the drive to Kaikoura is promising but we arrive to higher overcast conditions….could be worse and we remain optimistic…..we check out the town, stock up and hit our little apartment for dinner and rest…..a walk on the beach provides some unique views of the mountains and the Kaikoura peninsula……tomorrow we’ll decide if we want to do the local dolphin encounter…
crossing over to the north beach we see the mountains hiding behind lower clouds and mist.....
the beach is black sand and stone speckled with pure white smoothed limestone rocks.....nobody for miles it seems......
as the sun falls, it is hard to determine if clearer, warmer conditions might follow.....ocean swimming is much more fun in the sun!!
there's always rock sculpture....Cathy seems to be quite good at it!!
we head back to camp wondering what tomorrow will bring......
